On Sunday, February 27th, I’ll be speaking about wedding photography at the Wedding Masters in Virginia Beach. This event is designed to be both inspirational and educational, and my presentation will give you the insight you need to select the perfect photographer for your big day. (Spoiler: it has nothing to do with the photos!) I’ll be presenting alongside some of my absolute favorite folks in this industry: Isha Foss Events, Keith Cephus, Maya Couture, Blue Steel Lighting, and DJ Seko. If you’re in the middle of planning your wedding, come out from 2-5pm. I’ll be speaking around 2:30.

I just got my hands on the Spring 2011 issue of i do!, the beautiful new publication from Michelle Kilgore and Kim Pietsch at Weddings by Michelle. It’s a lovely issue that highlights the premiere level of service that Weddings by Michelle provides, and offers plenty of insight and inspiration to those of you planning your own weddings! The gals have been working extremely hard on this for a very long time, and the effort really shows. Bonus: it features Becky and Zach’s wedding, one of my favorite 2010 events with Style Events at the Norfolk Botanical Garden and the Norfolk Marriott. The issues are being distributed now, so keep an eye out!

I’m extremely honored to have been selected a Best of Weddings vendor by The Knot for two consecutive years. The Best of Weddings nod is very special to me because it comes directly from brides and reflects the care I strive to provide every couple. Photography is obviously a creative adventure, but the true art in my work rests in how I take care of people. It’s only through the personal relationships and trust we build that any of the magic comes together on the other side of the lens. So thank you to my lovely couples who grew with me over the past years and trusted me with their most precious moments. And hello to all of you planning your weddings in 2011! I still have a few open dates in prime wedding season, so book quickly! :)

Just got word from Wedding Wire that I received a 2011 Bride’s Choice Award. This award recognizes the top 5 percent of local wedding professionals, and is based on recommendations from couples just like you. (Here’s what brides are saying about me :) If you’re not familiar with WeddingWire, head over to their site and start using it in your planning process. With so many vendors in the wedding industry, and with as much money as you’re investing in your plans, it’s important to review first-hand references from previous clients. Any vendor can put a bunch of “testimonials” on their website, but third-party sites like The Knot and Wedding Wire offer a more unbiased, honest look.

Check out the Spring/Summer edition of The Knot Magazine to read up on Lisa and Chris’s fabulous wedding in Norfolk last year. Lisa booked me for their wedding at the Norfolk Pagoda months before any other 2009 couple, which gave us plenty of time to discuss and anticipate the big day. Chris proposed to Lisa atop Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, so I flew up to New York and had an amazing engagement session around both the park and the Brooklyn Bridge. This photo from that session is easily one of my most favourite images I’ve ever created. From taking photos with snakes around our necks to hiding from the rain on wedding day, I had an incredible time with Lisa and Chris, and can’t thank them enough for being so open and enthusiastic about making great images. Big thanks to Isha Foss Events for making everything awesome.

Every year The Knot magazine conducts a survey of 21,000+ couples to learn more about their experience with wedding vendors. The editors then compile the data and present the results in their annual “Best of Weddings” magazine. Looks like someone’s been talking behind my back because I just got named a Best of Weddings winner for 2010. Huzzah! In the wedding industry, this is like winning the People’s Choice award – the accolade comes from brides and grooms just like you. And that’s what makes it so special! After all, anybody can grab a camera, call themselves a photographer, and take a great photograph these days. But not everybody can provide an excellent customer experience – especially when dealing with the priceless memories of your wedding. So thank you to everyone who felt compelled to recommend the experience of working with me. I look forward to the new couples who heed your advice! (That said, I only have a handful of 2010 dates remaining, so make sure you get in-touch asap if you’re interested!)
