Check out the Spring/Summer edition of The Knot Magazine to read up on Lisa and Chris’s fabulous wedding in Norfolk last year. Lisa booked me for their wedding at the Norfolk Pagoda months before any other 2009 couple, which gave us plenty of time to discuss and anticipate the big day. Chris proposed to Lisa atop Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, so I flew up to New York and had an amazing engagement session around both the park and the Brooklyn Bridge. This photo from that session is easily one of my most favourite images I’ve ever created. From taking photos with snakes around our necks to hiding from the rain on wedding day, I had an incredible time with Lisa and Chris, and can’t thank them enough for being so open and enthusiastic about making great images. Big thanks to Isha Foss Events for making everything awesome.

Every year The Knot magazine conducts a survey of 21,000+ couples to learn more about their experience with wedding vendors. The editors then compile the data and present the results in their annual “Best of Weddings” magazine. Looks like someone’s been talking behind my back because I just got named a Best of Weddings winner for 2010. Huzzah! In the wedding industry, this is like winning the People’s Choice award – the accolade comes from brides and grooms just like you. And that’s what makes it so special! After all, anybody can grab a camera, call themselves a photographer, and take a great photograph these days. But not everybody can provide an excellent customer experience – especially when dealing with the priceless memories of your wedding. So thank you to everyone who felt compelled to recommend the experience of working with me. I look forward to the new couples who heed your advice! (That said, I only have a handful of 2010 dates remaining, so make sure you get in-touch asap if you’re interested!)

My friends at Apple asked me to put together a workshop to teach people how I use Aperture to manage my wedding workflow. The workshop is 9/28 at 6pm, and will be hosted by the MacArthur Center Apple store in Norfolk, VA {map}. My presentation will focus on workflow, not necessarily photography, so it should appeal to anybody who takes a lot of photos and is interested in managing them better. Which is to say: you don’t have to be a wedding photographer, or even a professional photographer, to come out and learn something! If you’re planning to attend, and you have any particular questions you want me to cover, please shoot me an email and I’ll try to work ‘em in. Here’s the info page on Apple’s website with more information.

Pick up your copy of the latest Vow Bride Magazine to check out the three-page spread on my Outer Banks couple, Kai and Matthew. The Pennsylvania couple chose an incredible house along the Outer Banks of North Carolina for their intimate destination wedding this past May. In addition to their close friends and family, the couple’s 3-year old lab, Kona, kept the ceremony lively by serving as Kai’s “flower dog.” (Kona actually took her job quite literally and made several attempts to devour Kai’s bouquet during portraits!) Alongside my photographs, Kai offers her insight into the planning process and shares details about their special day. Thanks to editor, Kim Wadsworth, and all the gals at Port Folio who keep my inbox and voicemail happy.

I just received word that David Beckstead, one of American Photo’s Top 10 Wedding Photographers, selected a photograph of mine for placement in q recent competition over at Pictage. The photo was an image I captured up in Lynchburg, Virginia at a wedding inside Snidow Chapel on the campus of Lynchburg College. I’ve included additional details on the behind-the-scenes magic after the jump.

Are you wasting your sweet, precious life away on Facebook? Me, too! I don’t have a solution to your facebooking addiction, but I do have the answer to make it worse. Here’s a link to the Justin Hankins Photography page on Facebook. (Woo-hoo! Vanity!) You don’t have to be a friend to view the page, so click through, become a fan, check out my most recent work, do a dance, I don’t care. It’s facebook. You can do whatever you want. And for those of you who aren’t on facebook, ignore this message and take a moment to thank the good Lord that you haven’t been swayed by the sirens of such evil temptation.
