Apple Aperture Workshop

Aperture 3 Workshop with Justin Hankins

My friends at Apple have asked me to host another workshop to demonstrate how I use their Aperture 3 software within my wedding workflow. I shoot thousands upon thousands of images every week, and Aperture is the only software I use to manage, edit and deliver my couples’ photographs within days of their events.

What I’ll be covering

This talk will demonstrate how I use Aperture as the heart of my wedding post-production. I’ll be using a recent wedding I photographed in Isla Mujeres, Mexico to walk you through my wedding workflow from start to finish. I’ll demonstrate administrative tasks like keywording and categorizing, and I’ll share “best practices” I’ve developed to help optimize my time spent in post-production. I’ll devote a considerable amount of time to Aperture’s editing tools, and I’ll explain how I extend Aperture to produce album layouts, multimedia slideshows, and more. In addition to discussing the Aperture software, I’ll talk through my thoughts and techniques when I’m both capturing and editing images. If you’ve got questions about images I’ve produced in the past, come out and peek behind the curtain.

Who is this for?

This talk is primarily designed for professional wedding photographers who are interested in learning about alternative solutions to common problems, as well as amateurs photographers looking for insight on how to establish a viable workflow they can grow into. Other folks who might draw value from this talk include those trying to find a productive way to manage a large library of photographs, as well as current iPhoto users who feel like they’ve grown out of iPhoto and need to move into something more robust.

Who am I?

I’m a photographer based in Virginia Beach, who travels around the world documenting the happiest moments in people’s lives. My work has earned an Accolade of Excellence by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, and I’m a back-to-back Best of Weddings winner by The Knot magazine for both 2010 and 2011. I’ve been using Aperture since its beta release, and it fits within my workflow better than any other program I’ve explored.
