Charlottesville Virginia Hot Air Balloon Wedding Photography

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you travel?

Gosh, yes. I’ve photographed as north as the Arctic Circle on Norway’s Lofoten Islands, and as south as the paradise island of St. Lucia. I operate on both coasts, with recent events in Las Vegas and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In fact, I photographed more travel weddings in 2008 than local weddings. At one point, I had back-to-back events in Lynchburg, VA, Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and Las Vegas. I’m also frequently in Washington DC, Richmond, VA, and various locations in Michigan. (Detroit and Kalamazoo!)

The reason I like shooting destination weddings is because they usually involve more personal time with the couple. And since my business is rooted in creating beautiful photographs through meaningful relationships, the additional bond of traveling together translates into incredibly intimate, personal photographs. All of my destination packages include additional photo sessions (day-before, day-after) to make sure we take advantage of the beautiful locations.

Who should retain you as a photographer?

I enjoy working with anybody who recognizes the value and importance of photography and who appreciates the craftsmanship and detail that goes into the products I provide. Photography has always been a luxury service, and I work best with couples with high standards and who want the highest-quality products and services available. Good sense of humor, and knowledge of obscure trivia is a bonus.

Why should we hire you?

I offer a personal level of customer service that no other photographer can beat. I do this by limiting the number of weddings I shoot every year in order to make sure each couple receives as much attention as I can provide. Everything I do is backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee, which gives my couples the confidence that I’ll be there to take care of them every step of the way. My couples typically talk to me more than any other vendor, even their wedding coordinators, because they recognize that my photographs are going to be the only tangible memories of their special day. I take this very seriously, and I work side-by-side with each couple to make sure their needs are met. I also take pretty pictures!

Do we get our images on disc?

Yes! All packages include your high resolution digital files on disc, suitable for printing. Additionally, I provide you with low-resolution copies for convenience in emailing and uploading to MySpace and Facebook.

We don’t live near you. How can we hire you if we never meet?

I love getting to know all my clients, but face-to-face meetings are sometimes not possible. In these cases, I rely on my experience running a design firm with international clients prior to getting into photography. I spent many years learning how to communicate on a personal level through email and phone, and I’m confident you’ll be at ease with the level of communication I provide. I tend to write much more than is necessary to make sure you know exactly what I’m talking about, and I have an unstoppable grasp on the ol’ English language. (FYI: that’s hyperbole.)

Can you photograph our rehearsal too? Honeymoon? Other moments?

Yes, of course. I love being part of the entire wedding experience. I learn so much about people from simply being around them, and the more comfortable we feel around each other, the better the photographs will be. In fact, I try to make it to each couple’s rehearsal just to have a better preparation for the following day.

Will you be the person photographing my wedding?

I will be the photographer at your wedding. Likewise, you’ll deal directly with me throughout the entire process, from initial contact to after your wedding. I have a team of assistants that rotate through weddings based on their specialties, and I expect each one to meet my own high standards for professionalism. If your wedding is a more intimate affair, and you’d rather not have more than one photographer, I’ll gladly photograph alone.

Who processes the images?

I do the post-production work on your photographs. Each image is scrutinized and given individual treatment for color balance and contrast. Unlike most photographers, I don’t use Photoshop in my processing workflow to create trendy special effects. Producing timeless photographs that won’t embarrass you in 20 years is incredibly important to me. After all, your wedding will be perfect already – it doesn’t need fake embellishments! Instead, I capture and provide natural images that document the real moments of your day. No artificial sweeteners. No added preservatives.

Can you hold a particular date for me?

When you contact me by email, I’ll notify you of my availability for a given date. After this email, you have 2 days to get back to me. If you need me to hold the date longer, I can extend it to 5 days upon request. After that, a contract and retainer will be required to hold the date.
