Here are some images from Ashley and Greg’s wedding in Virginia Beach. The couple selected the Lynnhaven River as the backdrop for their vows, and the Clearwater beach house in Sandbridge for their reception.
Like me, Ashley and Greg grew up in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach and graduated from Cox High School (go Falcons!). They shared mutual friends throughout high school, but didn’t officially meet until a group of them made a trip to the ol’ Lynnhaven 18 theaters for a showing of the timeless classic, “Anchorman.” As they parted ways for college at VMI and ODU, they kept in touch until senior year, when they finally began dating.
After backpacking with Ashley throughout Europe, Greg became an officer in the US Coast Guard and began thinking about the next steps. As he puts it, “With little more than a promise of a roof over her head, Ashley opted to follow me to rural Texas on Coast Guard orders. Some time later, we were engaged on the peak of one of our favorite hikes along the Appalachian Trail.”
Honoring their roots, Ashley and Greg decided to organize an outdoor wedding in Virginia Beach alongside the Lynnhaven River’s “swaying sea oats, skittish blue crabs, and assortment of seabirds.” Their ceremony was easily one of the most sentimental I’ve ever experienced — their vows were so touching that they brought everyone to tears. Even Susan, the couple’s officiant, had to take a moment for a couple deep breaths. (Well done, Ashley and Greg — that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the officiant tear up π It was a very special ceremony.
Shortly after, Ashley and Greg hopped into a blue Corvette and made their way to Sandbridge to meet their family and friends. The rain tried its best to keep everyone inside, but thankfully, nobody was deterred. The guests spent the night dancing to a hand-picked playlist, and a few of them even grabbed the mic to serenade the couple π
