A&T, who insist I call them T&A 🙊, planned a beautiful autumn-inspired Ballroom at McKay wedding in downtown Grand Rapids. McKay Tower is an iconic silhouette in the GR skyline, making it one of the most historic wedding venues in Grand Rapids, MI.
The day began in the original Pantilind wing of the Amway Grand Plaza, where the couple got ready with their families and wedding party. After taking family portraits in Rosa Parks Circle and along the Grand River, the couple and their guests gathered at McKay Tower for the ceremony.
The Ballroom at McKay is one of the most historic ballrooms in Grand Rapids. Originally serving as the Grand Rapids National Bank, McKay stood for decades as the tallest building in Grand Rapids. The marble interior is still dotted with former bank vaults, and the majestic Doric columns lift your gaze to the impressive ceiling.
After proceeding down the aisle to a brass quintet, T&A exchanged vows beneath the ballroom’s magnificent chandeliers. Adding sentimentality to an already special ceremony, the couple invited their pastor from across state to officiate their celebration.
As guests enjoyed cocktail hour, the wedding party and I explored downtown Grand Rapids, hunting for the best wedding photo locations. The Autumn foliage was just wrapping up its annual appearance, so we made use of everything we could find along the river. The Blue Bridge is quintessential Grand Rapids, so we naturally paused for Blue Bridge wedding photos. And after making a river loop, we ended in the atrium of DeVos Place.
Returning to McKay, we discovered the Ballroom had been transformed for T&A’s wedding reception. With candles lit and chandeliers illuminated, the Ballroom treated guests to sentimental toasts and delicious treats. A brief pause for first dances led perfectly into the party portion of the evening, which was so enthusiastic it broke the dance floor.
Downtown GR is home to so many beautiful Grand Rapids wedding venues, and the Ballroom at McKay is an elegant option for an unforgettable night. Combining history and the charm, a Ballroom at McKay wedding is a fantastic choice for your own celebration.
