From instagram: Oh, DC Cherry Blossoms. Your reluctant and recalcitrant whims. You beat to your own metronome, then you sit back and guffaw at the armada of humanity that sails toward your allure. Year after year, I’ve accompanied the poor souls who’ve been caught in your siren’s call, piloting them to the edge of the Tidal Basin for mere glimpses of your blooms. Weaving back and forth amongst the maelstrom of bodies, we try our best to find a pocket of placid to call our own, while wave after wave of fellow onlookers underscore the futility of it all. As usual, you made it one of the most challenging days for even this battle-tested photographer. And as usual, you tormented us at every turn. But… as usual… you relented for one merciful moment, and provided us with the gift of this sentimental second under your canopy to ourselves.
After spending the afternoon amongst the blossoms, we retired to Chinatown and one of the couple’s favorite restaurants to reward ourselves with tasty treats and lychee-tinis. The vibrancy of the Friendship Arch and the passing traffic offered the opportunity for some urban city photos to contrast the earlier blossoms.
