Here are some images from K&B’s Poe Museum wedding in Richmond, VA. I’d lived in RVA for years, but had never been to the Poe Museum. Thankfully, K&B’s wedding changed that, and it has easily become one of my most favorite unique wedding venues in Richmond.
The day began with K&B getting ready across town from each other. After arriving at the Poe Museum, we held a first look for the couple in the museum’s beautiful garden. This provided us the opportunity to get the dreaded family formals out of the way ahead of time and allowed everyone to hop right into the reception excitement after the ceremony.
After exchanging vows in the terraced garden (in front of the Edgar Allan Poe bust, no less), the couple and guests enjoyed tasty treats that were sentimental to the couple’s travels. Like Muffulettas from the famed Central Grocery in New Orleans.
The day was personalized further with so many special touches by the couple, like cafe lights, floral embellishments, and plenty of references to Mr. Poe (including several ravens hidden about). Additionally, the couple rented my “wedding booth” to ensure they got unique and hysterical portraits of their guests. Finally, the night capped off with an impromptu breakdance session by the groom and a sparkler exit down E. Main Street.
The museum grounds are perfect for intimate weddings, allowing you far more opportunity to mingle with guests than, say, a big generic ballroom. And the history and manicured garden make for a very special space in which to celebrate. If you’re still brainstorming Richmond wedding venues, be sure to check it out — a Poe Museum wedding is something your guests will never forget.
