Here are some images from C&B’s southern wedding in New Orleans. The couple elected to host their wedding ceremony at St. Theresa of Avilla, followed by a Southern Oaks Plantation wedding reception. There are countless New Orleans wedding venues to choose from, and St Theresa and Southern Oaks Plantation are two of my favorites.
The day began at the Westin New Orleans Canal Place, where the bride and groom’s suites had sweeping views of the French Quarter. The Westin is such a comfortable spot to stay and get ready beforehand, and it’s a classy wedding venue in its own right. As a result, the Westin was the perfect, convenient location to get pre-ceremony portraits and group formals out of the way so that the couple could head to cocktail hour directly after the ceremony.
St Theresa of Avila is a historic New Orleans Catholic Church that served as a beautiful setting for C&B’s ceremony. The church had suffered flooding and fire after Hurricane Katrina, but had been rebuilt with an incredible amount of love. That love is palpable when you walk inside and provides an uplifting atmosphere to every wedding mass.
After the ceremony, the couple and their guests moved the celebration to the venerable Southern Oaks Plantation. This antebellum-style home offers one of the best wedding experiences I’ve ever had as both a guest and a vendor and C&B’s guests were treated to a wonderful night. Although the summer humidity kept everyone in the air condition, the beautiful front lawn and the poolside veranda would make excellent choices for an outdoor wedding in New Orleans.
Certainly one of the highlights of the night was the couple’s traditional New Orleans wedding second line parade. With wedding umbrellas and handkerchiefs hoisted, C&B and their guests paraded throughout the venue like the stars of the night that they were.
There are so many beautiful, historic wedding venues in New Orleans, and it was an absolute treat getting to work at The Westin Canal Place, St Theresa of Avila, and Southern Oaks Plantation. The food and the music was some of the best I’ve ever experienced at a wedding in the decade I’ve been doing this. And from the fun that I watched the couple and guests experience, all three would be excellent choices for your own NoLa wedding.
